Mushroom Picking Nature-Walk

Join us for a mushroom foraging nature walk guided by mycologist Veiko Kastanje.

Let’s see how many different species we can find! 

Prepare to be amazed by the variety of mushrooms that grow in our forests—many of which we may never notice during our everyday walks. 

Veiko has a fascinating story to share about every mushroom he encounters in the woodland. You will learn how to identify your own mushroom spots, which fungi are safe to pick and which should be left in the forest, as well as how to preserve your finds for the winter months. He will also share tales about “magical mushrooms,” their psychedelic properties, and the health benefits of mushrooms from both our local forests and far-flung continents.

The walk will conclude with a special surprise: amidst the mushrooms and natural surroundings, our chef will prepare a delicious treat using the mushrooms you have gathered. A true delight for any forager!

Veiko Kastanje has studied mycology and botany at Tartu University; also worked as a guest researcher at Helsinki University, University of Gothenburg and National Botanical Garden of Belgium. Veiko takes every chance he gets to travel, going on mushroom foraging trips and organising mushroom exhibitions. He has also translated several mushroom picking and identification handbooks into Estonian.

Our Chef de Cuisine has created a fabulous three-course dinner, special menu dedicated to the tastes of the islands from the local ingredients, in which foraged mushrooms play a significant role.
